Research On Children’s Library Wayfinding System From The Perspective Of Reading Promotion

Abstract/Summary:
The library wayfinding system is an important part of the library,and spatial orientation is its basic function.The study selects the children’s library wayfinding system to conduct research under the threshold of reading promotion,and gives new function and value to the children’s library wayfinding system.Shanghai Children’s Library is taken as an example for empirical research.Firstly,the current situation of the use and construction of the wayfinding system of Shanghai Children’s Library is studied.From the demand side,the online review data of readers of Shanghai Children’s Library is collected,and the high-frequency word analysis method and the method based on rooted theory are used to analyze the effectiveness and practice,shortcomings and readers’ needs of the Shanghai’s children’s library wayfinding system in readers’ cognition.From the supply side,the exploratory field observation method and semi-structured interview method were used to obtain the construction ideas of librarians in the construction of the Shanghai Children’s Library wayfinding system,and the problems that need to be improved in the Shanghai Children’s Library wayfinding system are summarized from the perspective of reading promotion.Secondly,based on the above analysis,the improvement strategies of the wayfinding system of Shanghai Children’s Library are proposed.Finally,the construction strategies of the wayfinding system in the reading promotion of children’s library are proposed.The conclusions include four aspects.In terms of usage: the Shanghai Children’s Library wayfinding system has formed two forms in practice,including "Children’s Library Wayfinding System-Children’s Library Space-Children’s Library Reading Promotion" and "Children’s Library Wayfinding System-Children’s Library Reading Promotion";in the perception of readers,the wayfinding system of Shanghai Children’s Library has two shortcomings,including incomplete implementation of spatial orientation function and being responsible for bad reading experience for readers;readers have basic space-oriented needs and good spatial experience needs,and at the same time,they have potential reading promotion needs for the Shanghai Children’s Library wayfinding system.In terms of construction: the wayfinding system of Shanghai Children’s Library includes the identification part,the architecture part,the librarian part,and the technical part,and readers’ participation part;the shortcomings of the construction of Shanghai Children’s Library wayfinding system are weak awareness of reading promotion,imperfect construction,and a lack of technical part.In terms of the construction strategies of Shanghai Children’s Library wayfinding system from the perspective of reading promotion: the first is to ensure the basic spatial orientation function,and it is necessary to build a child-friendly and diverse wayfinding system and improve it with the times;the second is to realize the reading-promotion value-added function,including the cooperation with urban planning and seeking assistance strategies of the external wayfinding system,the five construction elements including the signage,architecture,librarians,technology and readers’ participation of the internal wayfinding system,and based on offline physical space and seeking assistance strategies of the online wayfinding system;finally,it is necessary to standardize the construction process of the wayfinding system,and issue specifications of the construction process of the wayfinding system.Finally,the construction strategies of the wayfinding system in the reading-promotion process of children’s libraries,including top-level design with overall planning,implementation of basic spatial orientation function,and implementation of value-added function of reading promotion.
