Books are the tangible carrier of knowledge,whereas reading is the most crucial channel to acquire knowledge.In 2014,the national reading was written into the government official report.In the context of nationwide reading,the promotion of children's reading also has received increasing attention from society.Children's reading is a considerable element to improve the level of cultural civilization in the nation and strengthen the cultural literacy of citizens.Children's reading promotion is an essential part of the nationwide reading activity.Thus,the public library is the primary service subject and service environment for children's reading.To enable every child to benefit from early reading and enjoy reading is the goal of public libraries.The age of 0-3 is the best time to develop children's reading interest,and the age of 3-6 is a crucial stage in developing children's reading ability.The earlier the child starts reading,the more beneficial it will be to their later development.At the same time,as the universal language in the world,English is a compulsory course in China.Before the age of 10 is a golden period for children to learn language.With children's parents are paying more and more attention to early childhood education in English,and the importance of reading English books is increasingly prominent.Chinese public libraries started reading service for children later than western countries,and there are still many shortcomings in the reading guidance of children's English books.However,preschool children's reading demand for English books is gradually increasing,which puts forward higher requirements for Chinese public libraries.This paper takes public libraries of Shandong Province,as examples to study the promotion of English reading for preschool children in public libraries.Starting fromthe nationwide reading and English as a global language as background,firstly introduce the significance and research status of studying the promotion of English reading among preschool children and defines the related concepts of early childhood reading.Secondly,design a questionnaire to investigate the current reading situation of preschool children's English books in Shandong Province.Then,according to the research results,integrating the existing public library reading promotion model into the specific practice of preschool children's English book reading promotion,and appropriate promotion plans under different models were proposed.Finally,feasible promotion strategies are developed based on the proposed promotion plan to promote public libraries to play a more significant role in preschool children's early reading.
