Along with rapid development of China's information technology(IT),as IT data center infrastructure,servers play in very important role,and the power consumption and its cost has become higher and higher.The energy conservation and emissions reduction became a hot and popular topic.Hence in order to achieve lower power consumption,the one and only method is to implement server power monitoring,understand the server power structure,and finally implement specified component energy-saving technology.The main research content of this thesis,is to discuss how to implement real-time power consumption monitoring and management of rack-mount server and its key components.Through the research of relevant technology,the precise monitoring of digital power supply can be achieved on the basis of key components digital circuit and digital power supply hardware design.Shunt resistor current and inductor current of dc current measurement technology is the foundation of realization of power measurement.At the same time,PMBus(Power Management Bus)will be introduced to achieve highly effective communication between controllers and power supply chipset.Then server can transfer digital power supply and measure the voltage,current parameters with the help of integrated BMC(Baseboard Management Controller).In this thesis,the innovative research of PMBus protocol command and BMC IPMI(Intelligent Platform Management Interface)protocol,developed a power telemetry software.Via the web or bus adapters,server can realize remote access to power measurement chip,collect relevant parameters of the measurement results in the form of statements,finally to achieve its power consumption hardware and software monitoring system.After the design and implementation of rack server power consumption monitoring and management,power telemetry plays an extremely important role in the system performance tuning.By the analysis and verification of the results of the monitoring system,power consumption for energy conservation and emissions reduction measures are put forward,server redundancy power supply cold backup technology can be properly introduced,CPU,fan,memory and other components get accurate verification and use of energy saving technology.The study of this thesis can make servers more energy-efficient and greener,plays an important role in the development of the data center.
