Human Library Of University

The Human Library, initially developed by the Danish NGO in2000, is now heldin more than40countries, with the aim of promoting intercultural understandingthrough dialogue. China is no exception, with an increasing number of universities,NGOs and corporations organizing the Library as an exercise in diversity training andintercultural education. At present Human Library refers to an innovative Libraryservice that is increasingly being adopted by university libraries across china. Humanlibrary not only improve the quality of service in the university library but also createnew knowledge that will help celebrate diversity and enhance peace in our society.Thispaper is the first comprehensive and independent analysis of Human Libraries organizedby Chinese university. It provides Human Library as a bridge between people ofdifferent backgrounds and as a powerful instrument to nurture students’ capacities to acton differences. Based on analysis on some conceptions and field research, this paperdesigns the processing mode of holding the Human Library. The paper also comparedseven Human Libraries which organized by campus, founding the limits, and providedthe solutions.
