With the increasingly wide utilization of tower cranes in Construction, tower craneaccidents are frequent because of the non-standard use. To ensure the safe andeffective use of tower crane, this paper design a monitoring system of tower cranebased on B/S architecture and focus on the study of key technologies like faultdiagnosis and life prediction for tower crane, which provide a basis for users tomonitor the operational status of tower crane in time.First of all, the paper introduce the principle of monitoring acquisition units whichare Widely used in the work site of tower crane based on summarize the research statusof monitoring system for tower crane at home and abroad.The paper also introduce aGPRS communication mode between work site and upper computer based on B/Sarchitecture. The communication mode can transfer data in a many-to-one style betweenthe monitoring acquisition units and upper computer and achieve the function ofmonitoring system for tower crane to collect many monitoring amounts in the sametime.In the second place, fault diagnosis of tower cranes based on PCA relatedalgorithms are researched in the paper. The PCA algorithm has the function of decliningthe dimension while handling line related data and makes the monitoring with manyvariables carried out from multivariate space into the low dimension. In order toovercome the problem of false positives and the omission result from smallperturbations which haven’t solved in the traditional PCA algorithm when sampling inhigh-frequency. Comparing PCA algorithm and DPCA algorithm during the process, theresult of simulation shows that DPCA algorithm can judge and positioning the faulteffectively in the fault diagnosis of tower cranes. Life prediction of tower crane basedon BP neural network is also researched in the paper. The monitoring variables of tower cranes are too many and have not a clear function relationship with surplus life of towercrane. BP neural network algorithms are used to training and simulate the monitoringdata of tower crane because it’s powerful abilities of memory, induction and study. Theconclusion can be drew that it is realistic to use BP neural network algorithm in the lifeprediction of tower crane.Last but not the least, a monitoring system of tower crane based on Web explorer isdesigned in the paper. Monitoring data are showed by means of ASP.NET structure andGoogle Maps API. The effect of showing the monitoring information in the relevantposition on Google Maps is achieved finally. The result prove that the monitoringsystem based on B/S architecture in the paper is a good solution which used to monitorthe work site of tower crane far away.
