With the rapid development of city construction, tower cranes are widely used, therefore, more and more safety problems appear, and the demands of Tower Crane Remote Monitoring System (TCRMS) are increasing continually. At present, the existing TCRMS is based on Disk Resident DataBase (DRDB), which encounters double pressures from terminal device and web page. The limitation of DRDB on real-time data process is becoming more and more obvious. Therefore a new database technique is urgently needed to improve the data-handling performance of TCRMS.This paper mainly researches the relative theories of Main Memory DataBase (MMDB), and compares the difference between MMDB and DRDB. Then, the key techniques of an open source Main Memory DataBase (MMDB) FastDB is researched and introduced into TCRMS. The core modules of TCRMS are designed and implemented after analyzing the requirements of TCRMS. By using the storage technique of FastDB, the data storage structure of TCRMS is designed. Besides, the index technique of FastDB is used to optimize the function of data storage and access, which improves the data-handling performance of TCRMS. Aiming at the memory’s volatility, the fault-tolerant technique of FastDB is used to ensure the security of the data in TCRMS. Finally, a function of automatic detection of tower crane operational data is designed, which improves the monitoring capability of TCRMS.Test and application results show that TCRMS has better capability on remote monitoring of tower crane, and has a better performance on data processing than the traditional one, which is based on Oracle database.In further research, the detecting standard on abnormal data will be improved to adapt to more abnormal situation, and the techniques of MMDB will be researched, which can be used in similar systems.
