As an indispensable equipment for loading and unloading in construction works, tower crane plays an important role in infrastructure construction and social development. However, tower crane accidents have brought many negative effects because of their frequent occurrence. Statistics show that tower crane accidents rate is one of the highest in the field of special equipments. And the accidents, if happening, can cause great loss of life or property. According to current status of tower crane safety monitoring system, the paper offers a wireless remote monitoring system based on the Internet of Things technology for tower crane, which is a combination of monitoring system and management system. With the help of the technology, it can also realize real-time condition monitoring to tower cranes effectively by multi-sensors to tower crane group. The signal condition of the traditional system is transmitted by long-distance lines, or collected and recorded data by workers at site. However, the long transmission lines can not only increase the cost, but also be easily influenced by different weather conditions. As we all know, the lines can be easily aging or mangled because of long exposure to the scorching sun and the harsh wind. And signals transmission may be interrupted because of the broken lines if it blows or snows heavily.It makes long distance information transmission system possible because of the rapid development and wide application of wireless communication technology. Compared with the traditional data transmission system, the wireless transmission system saves lots of lines without considering the installment of long lines, as well as reducing construction difficulty and cost. It also well suits the area where workers can not easily get to. So it will have very broad application prospects in the future.Based on the tower crane, this paper combining its detail operation method and condition, aims to research wireless remote monitoring system by using the Internet of Things technology from the prospect of tower crane safety monitoring system. And it mainly studies the signal condition collection of tower crane, Master Control Panel (MCP) monitoring system of ARM9and wireless transmission system of ZigBee and GPRS. This system not only improves the automation monitoring level, but also saves lots of manpower and capital, which makes monitoring management convenient for its high utilization and social benefits.
