In recent years, with the vigorous development of the real estateindustry, the tower crane production has experienced very rapid growth. Asa common construction machinery, the tower crane can save a lot ofmanpower and greatly increase the efficiency of the works, but at the sametime, bad management and poor operation will also bring huge securityincidents. In order to guarantee the safe operation of the tower crane, Thispaper designs and implements a monitoring system based on ZigBeetechnology of tower crane,which not only solves the problems of lowAcquisition accuracy and poor anti-interference ability,but also solves thecabling and installation and maintenance difficulties.At the same time,thissystem realizes the real time monitoring of tower crane and effectivelyavoids the driver’s mistake to protect the tower crane’s safe operation.ZigBee technology is developed in recent years, which is ashort-range、 low complexity、 low-cost and micro-power wirelesscommunication technology.Because of its self-organized, safe andreliable,able to support a large number of nodes, etc, ZigBee technology hasbeen widely used in HomeAutomation, building automation, medical andhealth fields. It will have wide development prospects.In this paper, firstly, the basic knowledge of ZigBee and protocolstandard of IEEE802.15.4are introduced and the overall architecture of theZigBee protocol stack and the related protocol specification are analysesedin detail.Then, based on understanding the working principle of the towercrane,the plan of parameters measurement is designed, the overall model ofthe system is constructed and the overall design of the system is given.Inthe hardware,the hardware design including the sensor nodes, thecoordinator node、 keyboard and display module and memory module isemphatically introduced.In the software, this paper mainly analyzes theZ-Stack protocol stack of TI,especially the process of the coordinatorforming the network and the the sensor nodes joining the network from thecode. At the same time, the software design of the coordinator node andsensor nodes are finished to realize the parameters collection and wirelesstransmission. In addition to this, the software design of the keyboard display module and memory module is also completed to realize thereal-time display and data recording. It also develops the communicationprotocol to realize the485communication between the coordinator nodeand keyboard display module and makes the serial communication betweenthe keyboard display module and memory module come true.Finally,this paper completes each module of the system hardware andsoftware debugging and produces a prototype,and tests the networkcommunication quality and acquisition accuracy of the prototype. Theresults show that the ZigBee network within the range of30meters canensure that the received packet rate is above90%and the parameters of theacquisition error is less than3%,thus it meets the application requirementsand achieves the desired objectives.
