With the rapid development and extensive application of communication and network technology, computer networks have penetrated into all fields of social activities. PIS (Passenger Information System), as the independent system of Urban Rail Transit Construction, has also set up its computer networks and play an important role to support the key business, and is becoming more intelligent. In a PIS network, detecting network failures is an important practical issue in transit operation and management. Therefore, development of integrated network management for PIS, especially fault management, is of great significance.Because of its simpleness and easiness to implement, SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) has become the de fecto standard in practical network management, which is the major application in the network fault management. Design of high-quality fault management system is of great practical significance to achieve efficient network fault monitoring and improve network system reliability and availability of services.First, this thesis analyzed the PIS network management background and development significance, SNMP, and network fault management technology. Second, based on these technologies, an overall design of fault management in integrated network management system for PIS is made. A kind of failure monitoring of variable cycle algorithm was used in network fault monitoring, a warning oscillation offset algorithm is applied to network fault management. Fault management based on modular design has good scalability. The main functions of fault management include: data collection and failure to receive, data warehousing, performance monitoring, threshold settings, MIB browser. I also implemented user management, log management in addition. This thesis finally gives the result and performance evaluation, makes the summary and the future prospects of the research.
