Interruption of network service brings great influence to the customers, so the fault management of the communication network is been put at a premium in the carrier. With the development of the network application in so many domains, customers pay more attention to the reliability of network. In brief, how to detect the fault in time and how to help manager to handle it becomes a live research subject recently.Taking the communication equipments of Datang as the subject investigated, this paper gives a detailed analysis on the fault cause and transmission way, at last provides a fault management solution. The main points as belowed:1. Giving a detailed analysis on the different equipments' commonness and difference, divide the fault management module into 4 parts: acquisition, treatment, configuration, and statistic.2. Give a detailed analysis of warning's characteristics.Based on the alarm's different source, divide the alarm into 5 parts:transmission, equipment, environment, service quality, software fault.Based on the alarm's influence, divide the alarm into 4 degrees: urgent,major,minor,warning.3. Provide a solution of alarm information's collection, storage, query, display, statistics and so on.Taking the customer's requirement into consideration, the fault management module can achieve some advanced alarm functions, such as alarm mask, automatical treatment, classification statistics.4. The fault management module not only provides so many functions but also takes huge NE management capacity and alarm storm management into consideration. Only equipped with the popular computer hardware, this module can meet the telecom's requirement for centralized network monitoring.5.In order to meet the requirment on 'interconnection between varied devices and varied network management syetems', the fault management module provide the standard COBRA interface northward and SNMP interface southward.
