Network management requirements also will be improved, a good network management system can greatly improve network management efficiency.Network management system is a distributed network application system which includes software and hardware, software-based, the object of it is to manage the network and make the network normal and more safely. Network management system can find and eliminate network problems, network devices can be detected, analyzed and controlled by the network management, and services running of network systems can be protected. In the long-term of network operation and management practice, a set of requirements to meet this industry-standard of network management has been created. SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) as a network management protocol is the industry standard which is widely accepted and put into use. SNMP is a application layer protocol of the TCP/IP Protocol clusters, it's packets based on UDP and it adopts a Client/Server model:Management/Agent model. Through the interaction between the managements and agents, it completes the network management and maintenance.This article proposed a designed project, which is based on the network management system. The SNMP protocol is used in the project. In this article, completed the following aspects of the work: First, Introduced the development history of SNMP, analysis of the SNMP architecture and implementation principle, presentation and analysis as well as the packets structure, SMI and MIB. Second, Analysis of the four kinds of network management model, and highlights the functional management model, analysis of the model of five modules. Third, According to the analysis and design the fault management of the network management system, analysis and design of various functional, define the relevant professional terminology, a detailed description of the handling of background processes, and described the test results.Fault management is an important part of network management software, largely determine the network management efficiency. This module is designed for fault alarm information can be used to quickly locate a fault lies, and send them to the administrator by mail or SMS. Real-time alarms can be done in the system. In the alarm reporting process can also be carried out according to the needs of users alarm filtering, for unnecessary reporting or user does not care about the alarm can be masked. The module can also be alert to the dump, save for a long period of time warning for users to query and sum up experience, to identify recurring alarms and occurrence of reasons. Fault module to protect the quality of the network is running a great role.
