A Study On Female College Students' Images In The News Reports From Chinese Internet Media

Female college students are one of the preferred topics of news stories on the Internet in China today. The thesis intends to analyze the images of female college students in news reports on the Internet from the perspectives of the"gender"theory and feminist media studies.The thesis first chooses news reports about female college students on Sina.com as the samples for content analysis. Then it scrutinizes the female college student images in the samples by using the combined method of quantitative and qualitative analyses. The findings are as follows:"female college student & sex","ignorant victims","unfortunate help-seekers","losers in love and marriage","subordinate professional roles","violating laws and regulations"and"few positive images". In order to better interpret those findings, the thesis offers explanations from the following angles:"female stereotypes","popularization of higher education","gender awareness","China's social background"and"Internet media". Finally, it puts forward some measures to rebuild female college student images in news reports on the Internet, which can be categorized into three parts: the improvement of the overall quality of female college students, the construction of Internet media, and the implementation of laws and regulations concerning women rights and interests.
