In the 21th century, human beings are facing the information society, a society demands more for information, knowledge and Internet. Countries all over the world have recognized the significance of information literacy to the individual and the whole nation. With the development of the computer science and the Internet, the amount of the source of information is expanding, and the speed of the update of information is rising quickly, and the carrier of the information together with the method to gain it are more various. Information has become one of the vital resources, followed by land, capital and energy resources, that promotes the development of the history of human society.The information society asks more demands on the individuals'comprehensive quality because of its huge information and the fast update of knowledge, so everyone should acknowledge the conception of life-long study, one of which bases is information literacy. College students must regard the information literacy as one of the most important aspects on their cultivation of individual comprehensive quality if they want to develop themselves well in the environments of information and became specialists with spirits of creation and ability of practicing.Firstly, the article explains the importance and the necessity of Information Literacy for college students and the development of the concept of Information Literacy, and then illustrates the pith of the information literacy for college students based on their characters. Secondly, the article also introduces several influential foreign studies on information literacy and expresses the author's own understanding of the details and mutual relationship about information literacy. The article concludes the analysis of the present condition of the information literacy of college students based on questionnaire survey and the collection of information of the students in Jilin University. According to the methods of survey and analysis, induction and conclusion, interviews and so on, the conclusion that the average level college students'information literacy is comparatively low is proved. What is more, the college students'information literacy is also influenced greatly by their sex, grades and majors.The gist of the education model of college students'information literacy is the realization of the combination of traditional classes and the Internet based classes. Teachers with high quality are also needed. Then the information service of the library should be utilized in order to improve the information quality of the college students. Library's resource should be familiar to the students and its web set should also reflect the information demands of the college students and the characters of their document retrieval. College students should also take advantages of the information consultation service, and improve the ability of using information under the direction of the consultant, whose influence, on the education of information literacy, should be paid attention to. Finally, the online educational platform and the whole system of information literacy should be established in order to promote the internet based study of the college students. Based on the analysis above, methods that attempt to improve the education of information literacy are introduced. With the model analysis, we hope it is beneficial for the improvement of the average level of college students'information literacy and the quality of education of it.
