After three waves of development,artificial intelligence technology is becoming more and more mature.The new generation of artificial intelligence rising in the world will be an important opportunity for China to complete the scientific and technological revolution and upgrade the industrial structure.At the same time,the pace of "supply side" reform and "going out" of Chinese products put forward higher requirements for the competitive strength of China's manufacturing industry,and the integration of artificial intelligence and manufacturing industry is expected to become the engine of economic development.Under the background of this era,in order to help artificial intelligence better and more effectively promote the rise of made in China,this paper studies the influence of artificial intelligence on the competitiveness of manufacturing industry and its influence mechanism.Firstly,this paper introduces the international environment of artificial intelligence development,and expounds the theoretical and practical significance of the research.According to the logical framework of this paper,the literature is sorted out from four aspects: the measurement of artificial intelligence technology,the measurement of manufacturing competitiveness,the impact of artificial intelligence on manufacturing competitiveness,and the impact path of artificial intelligence on manufacturing competitiveness.The second part is the development of artificial intelligence technology in China.This paper introduces the development process,input and output and development potential of artificial intelligence.Through the description of statistical data,it is found that China's artificial intelligence has the characteristics of late start,rapid development and large number of talents.At the same time,it is also found that there is a big gap between China and developed countries in the frontier of artificial intelligence technology and the quality of talents.The third part is the development of China's manufacturing industry.This paper divides the development of manufacturing industry since modern China into five stages: the early efforts of manufacturing industry in modern China,the comprehensive start of manufacturing industry,the outbreak of heavy industry,the rapid prosperity of manufacturing industry after reform and opening-up,and the exploration and formation of new industrialization road.The development status of manufacturing industry is described and analyzed from two dimensions of region and industry.It is found that the sales value of China's manufacturing industry has increased more than six times from 2004 to 2016,among which Guangdong Province,Jiangsu Province and Shandong Province account for the largest proportion,and the eastern region accounts for the largest proportion.In terms of industry,computer,communication and other electronic equipment manufacturing industry accounted for the largest proportion of sales value.The fourth part puts forward three hypotheses for the influence channel of artificial intelligence technology on the competitiveness of manufacturing industry,which are: artificial intelligence technology affects the competitiveness of manufacturing industry by improving labor productivity,artificial intelligence technology affects the competitiveness of manufacturing industry by improving income distribution,and artificial intelligence technology affects the competitiveness of manufacturing industry by improving the participation of global value chain.The fifth part is the empirical analysis part.Firstly,factor analysis method is used to calculate the AI index and the competitiveness of manufacturing industry.Then,the panel data of 26 sub industries of manufacturing industry from 2008 to 2018 are used for benchmark regression and group regression.The results show that the application of AI technology in manufacturing industry can significantly improve the competitiveness of manufacturing industry,and this promotion effect is in the middle and high-tech industry It is higher in the industry than in the low tech industry.The results show that the mediating effect of global supply chain participation is not significant,while labor productivity and income distribution have significant mediating effect,accounting for 14.9% and 26.6% of the total effect respectively.Finally,this paper makes policy recommendations for the future development of China's AI and manufacturing industry,mainly including: increasing AI's R & D investment to help upgrade the industrial structure;paying attention to personnel training and improving discipline construction;reasonably distributing income to maintain employment stability;improving AI regulatory system and strengthening personal privacy protection.
