| Richard Louv first proposed the concept of "Nature-deficit disorder" in his book "The last child in the woods: saving the nature-deficit disorder children",which describes the phenomenon that the relationship between children and nature is increasingly alienated and even completely broken in the process of rapid urbanization. This fracture will lead to the deterioration of children’s sensory function and significantly increase the risk of chronic diseases. The relationship between children and nature in China is also not optimistic: heavy learning pressure, excessive reliance on electronic products and sharp decrease of wild natural environment lead to children’s separation from nature. The attitude of children and their descendants towards nature will not only affect their own health, but will also determine the future of our cities and our planet. Therefore,it is a far-reaching task to deal with nature-deficit disorder in children, namely,to rebuild the relationship between children and nature. There are many landscape approaches to deal with nature-deficit disorder in children, among which urban community garden has certain advantages in guaranteeing family participation, contact frequency and duration by virtue of convenient location and high interaction.Community garden plays a positive role in encouraging children to get close to nature, improving children’s diet, enhancing children’s physical activity, cultivating children’s social skills and improving their environmental awareness, providing a way to deal with nature-deficit disorder.Aiming at the problem of children with nature-deficit disorder, this paper analyzes the health problems and urgent needs of children with nature-deficit disorder in depth by combining the background of China.Through the analysis and comparison of four landscape means to reconstruct the connection between children and nature,it is pointed out that the urban community garden is an advantageous mode to relieve nature-deficit disorder. Then, through the methods of literature review and field research, the history of community garden construction at home and abroad is tracked, and typical cases are analyzed. On this basis, through the integration and cooperation of landscape design, behavioral psychology, environmental psychology, education, ecology, sociology and other disciplines, this paper summarizes the intervention mode of community garden to bring children closer to nature and improve children’s health. To build urban community garden for children, this paper puts forward the planning and design principles and strategies for the urban community gardens in response to nature-deficit disorder in children, with the help of children’s behavioral psychology,Nature Education Theory,Naturalist Intelligence and "Six Liberation" Thought of Tao Xingzhi, combined with the above summarized intervention model of community garden. The design principles include safety, accessibility, complexity, comfort and locality. The design framework includes: first, policies and regulations to support and regulate the development of urban community gardens;Second, the model of community garden embedded in the urban space;Third,to create a multi-agent cooperative construction alliance;Fourth, use new media and new technology to innovate the operation and management model. The purpose of this study is to arouse the attention from all walks of life to children with nature-deficit disorder and urban community gardens,so as to make a beneficial supplement to the theoretical research on urban living environment. |
