Xu Xu was an important Librarian in the period of the Republic of China.He had great accomplishments in reading guidance.The purpose of this paper is to study Xu Xu's and other scholars' writings on reading guidance during the Republic of China,and to draw Xu Xu's achievements in reading guidance concept and practice,as well as the significance of today's reading promotion.By using the methods of literature analysis and comparative analysis,this paper searches,collates,examines,organizes and studies the existing data,deeply explores Xu Xu's academic life and academic background,understands the development trend of his academic thoughts,and makes a comparative analysis of Xu Xu's reading guiding ideas and practical activities from a comprehensive,objective and dialectical point of view,reflecting Xu Xu's reading reference.The originality of guiding ideology and practice.Through the analysis of Xu Xu's reading guidance concept,this paper mainly finds out that Xu Xu's reading guidance not only benefits the people,but also promotes the development of Library and the writers,and guides readers in different degrees from the principles of "separation of the masses" and "grading".The composition,reading methods,reading attitudes and interest cultivation of the solution of books,and then through the guidance of instructors from multiple perspectives to guide readers,combined with the theory of other scholars in the Republic of China,the comparative analysis.From the above,Xu Xu's reading guidance concept supplements and improves the reading guidance concept of the Republic of China,and provides reference for the reading guidance of the Republic of China.Through the study of the practical activities in the reading and guiding field,this paper analyzes the reading remedial classes,reading clubs,academic level bibliography and reading survey analysis activities of the Jiangyin Alley Experimental People Library,and combs and compares the relevant literature.It is thus found that Xu Xu is an earlier scholar,who systematically and comprehensively discusses the concept and practice of reading guidance.His theory promotes practice,and practice derives new theories,constantly improving his reading guiding philosophy and practice.His graded bibliography practice provides reading directions for different levels of people.His reading survey,especially for reading service providers,has opened up new research in the popular library and promoted the development of the popular library education.Through the analysis of Xu Xu's reading guiding ideology and practice,this paper summarizes Xu Xu's reading guiding ideology from four aspects: explaining the guiding value of reading from multiple perspectives,deeply exploring the guiding principles of reading,a well-structured reading guiding mode,and advanced and unique reading investigation.Based on the contemporary reading promotion work,this study also puts forward three aspects: situational reading for readers,editing school bibliography,and cultivating readers' interest in reading,in order to inspire contemporary reading promotion work.
