Reading is an important activity which is unique to human and has important significance for a person’s growth and a country’s development. According to the 12th national reading survey report which is published by the Chinese academy of press and publication:the average adult’s mobile reading time per day has exceeded 30 minutes for the first time; in 2013, the proportion of access to digital reading was 50.1%, and in 2014 in the basis of high rise 8 percentage points to 58.1%; mobile reading rate was 51.8%, exceeded 50%for the first time. Digital reading is becoming more and more popular. With the situation of reading crisis in recent years, traditional reading habit is facing serious challenges. Reading promotion has been widely concerned and many countries have promoted the national reading promotion to the national strategic level. Library is the main driving force to promote the entire nation wide reading. Colleges and universities are the important position to cultivate high-quality talents and their libraries should promote students’reading as their own job responsibilities. For students of colleges and universities, through reading, they can get more knowledge and improve their literacy, so the study of university library reading promotion services is particularly important. Reading promotion has important significance in the following three aspects:for students, reading promotion can improve their interest in reading and cultivate their reading ability; for campus, reading promotion can promote the construction of scholarly campus and construct the reading civilization in a campus and the most important, reading promotion can promote the development of harmonious campus and the harmonious society, making contribution in building a moderately prosperous society.This thesis consists of the following six chapters. The first chapter is the introduction. The second chapter is an overview of reading promotion in the libraries of colleges and universities,which discusses the concept of reading, the elements of reading promotion, the characteristics of reading promotion, the significance of reading promotion and the necessities and feasibilities of reading promotion in the libraries of colleges and universities. The third chapter makes an analysis was conducted of 119 colleges and universities in Anhui by visiting the library websites.The analysis includes 6 aspects:the starting time, reading promotion subjects, contents, organizers and propaganda channels. The forth chapter points out the problems of reading promotion in the libraries of colleges and universities of Anhui province. The fifth chapter provides suggestions for reading promotion in the libraries of colleges and universities of Anhui province. The last chapter is the conclusion and outlook.
