The development of English teachers' teaching ability is an important part of the professional development of the teachers in the western minority areas,and it is also the focal point of current English education.The implementation of the new curriculum reform in Gansu province in 2010,the new curriculum of education and teaching has deeply influenced the development of English teachers' teaching ability.So the status qua and the impact factors of English teachers' teaching ability development in Gannan Prefecture are academic community's urgent problem to be solved.Therefore,the topic of this research is of great significance.This research is based on collecting,sorting and analyzing the literatures at home and abroad,and takes English teachers from four middle schools in Gannan Prefecture of Gansu province as its main surveying object.Its research methods are questionnaire survey,interview,and so on.And it researches teachers' basic situation,and analyzed the findings by SPSS19.0 statistical software in order to explore the status quo of English teachers' teaching ability development in Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.The main conclusions are as follows: the middle school English teachers' overall teaching abilities are good in Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture,and have little significant difference on genders,educational background,language certificates,qualifications and other factors;but the English teacher who has educational background,who has higher levels of English certificates,who has longer teaching ages generally has higher levels of teaching abilities than the teacher who does not has the same background.Through the interviews,the English teachers have shown great interest in post-service training.Based on the above conclusions,this research provides several strategies on promoting the development of middle school English teachers' teaching ability in Western China's Minority: they should increase investment in education in Western China's Minority,and reform and improve the support system of English teachers' teaching ability development;Pre-service education and post-training efforts should be strengthened to promote English teachers' teaching abilities of development in Western China's Minority effectively;English teachers' work enthusiasm in Western China's Minority should be inspired to improve teachers' work satisfaction.
