The traditional power meter reading mostly adopts manual meter reading, which has heavy workload, poor timeliness and other shortcomings, seriously affected the power department work efficiency. Although some areas have adopted the wired automatic meter reading system, it still has many limitations and potential safety hazards, and increasingly unable to meet people’s requirements. Wireless automatic meter reading system is basically realized in many developed countries. Compared with the overseas automatic meter reading technology, the domestic development of this area is relatively late.This thesis is based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard low-power LAN protocol. Through the investigation and analysis of the scheme to the meter reading system solution, considering economic requirements, this thesis designs the multi-functional meter reading system. The architecture of the system has been analyzed, involving two State Grid Corporation of enterprise standard Q / GDW 1376.2-2013 and DL-T 645-2007, and their data format and transmission.The core design pattern of multi-functional meter reading system concentrator and the multi-function watt-hour meter wireless communication module is made from high performance STM32F103 RC series MCU and CC1100 E RF chip. The design includes two aspects: hardware and software. The hardware focuses on the analysis of the work principle of each module and the circuit design. Based on a small amount of simplification and supplement of Z-stack, the software designs the working process of the wireless communication module to meet the requirements of design and implementation of wireless communication module.First of all, the hardware and software design of the multi-functional meter reading system have benn completed. Then, the test environment has been built. Performance of multi-functional meter reading system for wireless communication module, a reasonable system workflow, energy information and analytical data frames sent are tested. Test results show that the performances of the wireless communication module satisfy the design requirements. The system workflow design is reasonable. It can correctly read and show data of the multi-function watt-hour meter.
