Wireless meter reading is one method reading and processing data automatically with the technology of worknet and communication. It is the need of improving the automatic level of energy consumption and the necessity of rapid development of network and communication technology too. It not only may relieve reading person's labor intensity, reduces the reading mistake, but also has the advantage of high speed and good real-time.ZigBee is a new global standard for wireless conununieations , with the characteristics of low-cost,low power consumption,low datarate. The ZigBee protocol based on IEEE 802.15.4 standard will be embedded in thousands of ZigBee node,which can communieate easily with power-efficient. It has a good market in building automation,wireless meter-reading and industrial controls.This paper, firstly, introduces the background of wireless meter-reading, and the history of the automation meter-reading system. Secondly, it also introduces the theory knowledge of the ZigBee protocol stack from the network (NWK) layer and application layer to the physical (PHY) layer and the medium aceess control (MAC) sub-layer. Following, shows the theory of construction of the wireless meter-reading, and building the wireless network and transferring date etc, and designing that from the hardware design and the software the realization of wireless meter-reading node.The main problems I want to solve are as follow: Analyse the developed circumstance of the automatic meter reading system and compare several transmission technologies.Discuss the important technologies in the ZigBee transmission system designed. Design the hardware and software upon the limited condition.Do research on the system by experience and analyse dependability and time-consumption and safety.Our experiments show that our proposed solution achieves the design require -ment with satisfying flexibility and expansibility. Consequently, it acts as a plat form of wireless monitor system and supplies a new hardware design approach for wireless ZigBee networks.
