The smart meter with AMR(Automatic Meter Reading) as core is becoming the focus of people’s attention, when the conception of constructing national smart grid was put forward. The thesis proposes a wireless meter reading scheme based on Zig Bee technology, which can make up the shortcomings of the traditional meter reading. Zig Bee is an emerging short distance wireless communication technology, with the unique advantages of low cost and low power consumption,which make it more applicable to the industrial control field of lower transmission rate.Firstly, the thesis studies the Zig Bee technology, and elaborates on its protocol stack、the three kinds of network topology and routing protocol. On the basis of the study, the wireless meter reading system is designed. The main research content of the thesis is the wireless communication between the concentrator and the meters. The process of meter reading by way of active routing at470 MHz frequency is emphatically introduced. The system can make use of existing instruments in order to save cost.Secondly, the hardware and software about communication modules of concentrator and meter are designed. The STM32F103 series MCU is used as the core processor, and the CC1100 E is chosen as RF transceiver. In order to improve the receiving sensitivity and expand the communication distance, a CC1190 RF front-end is designed. The chips or devices of low cost and low power consumption are preferred in the selection of circuit components. Furthermore, circuit design diagrams of the main function modules are drawn by Multisim software. Meanwhile, the functions of communication module, such as network establishment、command frame analysis、data acquisition and data transmission, are achieved by making use of IAR EW, a software development tool. The module of meter in this design has relay function, which can transmit commands from other devices.Finally, the performance of wireless communication module and Zig Bee network is tested,Moreover, the function of the meter reading is tested by means of the serial port debugging tool.Test results show that the meter data can be read correctly and the expected goals are achieved. The design has broad market prospects, because it can be apply to all types of meter reading system.
