In this information society, the new media such as Internet and mobile phone is playing an increasingly important role among the audience. Media literacy education, especially film and television education has been placed emphasis on in primary and secondary schools. In the face of the trend of new media, the role in which the teachers play cannot be underestimated. They should not only possess enough media literacy, but also the education ability of using new media and the awareness of training students’media literacy so as to properly guide children to deal with the challenges brought by new media.Literature analysis, questionnaire investigation and case analysis are adopted in this paper. This study carried out the sampling among primary and secondary school teachers of Nanning city in Guangxi in order to understand their current levels of media literacy and related education ability. It also conducted a long-term research on their training for media literacy education. According to the result of the study, the levels of basic media literacy among primary and secondary school teachers in Nanning are generally high, but the usage of media lacked diversity. There is still room for improvement in the way of searching and applying Internet information. At present, the training of media literacy education in which teachers in Nanning are involved mainly focuses on film and television education. After the training, teachers have achieved great success in participating in the film and television, building and sharing the regional high-quality educational resources, and constructing the new media structure of education. Besides, they also have a profound understanding for the training.According to primary and secondary teachers’status of media literacy in Nanning as well as existing measures, this paper proposes some appropriate countermeasures, for instance, enhance the support and guidance of the government’s education policy, attach importance to the building of experts team on media literacy education, strive for participation and support of social resources, and continue to improve teachers’education and training levels of media literacy, etc. These measures are expected to further improve media literacy of primary and secondary school teachers in Nanning as well as provide a referential practical experience for the research on media literacy education.
