The concept of media literacy was firstly proposed by British scholars at the beginning of the 1930s. It was originally intended to protect the cultural tradition, language, values and national spirits of the UK and to animadvert on the fraudulence and pretence of the popular culture. Subsequently, media literacy activities and education were developed rapidly in many advanced countries and territories. In 1997, this concept was introduced into the academic circle of China by our scholars and gradually gained the recognition of the domestic circles of media and educational theory. However, the result we saw in the past years was that media literacy education had not been developed successfully in our country and had always been in a worrying disadvantageous status in the competition with the "First Class" (provided by popular media) and the "Second Class" (provided by school education). This paper mainly adopts document research methodology, survey and research methodology and interview methodology etc.,and is divided into 5 parts. Part 1 is the introduction, which provides the background and meaning of the proposal of media literacy education as well as its research methods, and then indicates the necessity of media literacy education. Part 2 explains the concepts of media literacy education as well as the concepts and principles of media literacy education, this part also summarizes the current situation of domestic and overseas media legacy education. Part 3 details the survey on media literacy in the Pearl River Delta. Part 4 analyses the survey on teenage students in schools in the Pearl River Delta so as to deepen the understanding of the media literacy education with Chinese characteristics, and then discusses the feasibility and precautions for the implementation of media literacy education in the current environment. Part 5 is the conclusion, which considers that the construction of the atmosphere of media literacy education has significant guiding and stimulating meanings and proposes some methods for teenage media literacy education in China when it is not brought into the normal curricula so as to provide the education departments with helpful reference for the implementation of teenage media literacy education.
