In recent years, video acquisition and transmission is more and more popular and widely. At the same time the video image compression application is widely concerned by more and more scholars. In order to make better use of video compression technology, video compression standards emerge as the times require. The current widely used video compression standard is H.264. Compared with previous video coding standards, H.264 has high compression performance, and is also more flexible and widely, according to different application scenarios which can provide different grades and corresponding coding tools. With the improvement of compression performance, H.264 has a higher complexity than previous standards. It requires high performance hardware and more complex software. After comprehensive consideration, the popular hybrid video compression architecture of FPGA+DSP is selected for real-time compression and reliable transmission system. This dissertation makes an intensive study of this architecture. The author’s major contributions are outlined as follows:1.The video compression algorithm is discussed. Firstly, the development history and actuality of video compression standard are introduced; then the basic knowledge of video compression is introduced, which points out that why compression is necessary in current transmission technology and storage technology and the reason for compression is that the video has large redundant information in time, space and human vision; at last the detailed framework for H.264 video compression standard and the key technologies(inter prediction, intra prediction, deblocking filter, transform and quantization, entropy coding and rate control) are introduced.2. Hybrid architecture of FPGA+DSP is studied. First, the characteristics of FPGA development and how to select FPGA have been studied; then study the characteristics of DSP development and how to select DSP processor; finally select the popular hybrid video compression architecture of FPGA+DSP to realize the system and select the FPGA and DSP device, also determine the basic functions of FPGA and DSP in the system.3. Study on the scheme of the hybrid architecture of video compression and reliable transmission system. First of all, according to different requirements, different image preprocessing scheme is given, including frame processing scheme, the luminance and chrominance signal pretreatment scheme, video image cache mechanism scheme; then the interfaces between FPGA and DSP are studied in detail, including video transmission, stream transmission and collaborative startup. Finally, reliable transmission scheme of video stream, decoder system and the show scheme after decoding video are given.4. The implementation of the hybrid architecture of video compression and reliable transmission system is studied. According to specific situations and actual needs, a specific encoder implementation is designed. Detailed description of the function of each module and the entire process is given. Then the corresponding decoder implementation is given, including some concrete parameters and modelsim simulation diagrams.
