The protection of literature published during the Republic of Chinaperiod (hereinafter referred as ROC literature) has become one of the research focuses in Chinese librarian circle. Most of these research talks about the protection on the primordial and reproductive perspectives of the literature, and does not pay enough attention on the grading of the ROC literature. However, it is almost impossible for protecting all these ROC literature at this stage, for the existence of confliction between the enormous numbers of these literatures and the limited fund devotion and the lacking of technical personnel. Be aware of this confliction, this thesis presents the grading-protection system of ROC literature, on the basis of looking close at the status of the ruin of the ROC literature in Fudan University library, and exploring thegrading theory for documents. The author hopes this thesis can contribute to the better preservation of ROC literature.Firstly, this thesis gives a general survey of the ROC literature by exploring the definition, the value and the collection bodies. It also presents the current situation of the protection of ROC literature on the basis of the questionnaire survey.Secondly, the thesis presents the source and character of the ROC literature in Fudan University library, also explores the protection methods for these literature and the shortcomings.Thirdly, the author analyzes the grading- protection system for the ROC literature as the key content of the thesis, by introducing the four modules of this system.Fourthly, on the basis of the system above, the author presents protection recommendations for the ROC literature of different value levels.
