WeiFang Medical University Library Literature Selection System Design And Implementation

The selection of literature plays an important role in the construction of library. The level of the selection influences the quality of the literature in library, as well as the service quality to teachers and students in the universities. There are a lot of difficulties in the selection of literature in the library of Weifang Medical University, such as the increased price of books, the limited book-purchasing funds, the increasing quantity of books and the mixture of publish house. Confined by the knowledge level of the buyers, it is hard to purchase all the books satisfied by the readers. In addition, there are other difficulties like the expanded recruitment, specialty reform, which makes it hard to rearrange the library holdings.The thesis analyzes the current situation of literature selection, based on the difficulties of literature selection, the understanding of the nature, task and purchasing principle of the library. Sticking to the principle of "books for use", the thesis designs a literature selection system of Weifang Medical University, offering booklist to the readers for recommending, and the readers may recommend according to their needs. The system grades the level of books recommended by the readers in order to purchase accordingly. The system provides assistance for the purchasers and helps them select the right books with academic value which satisfy readers' needs and accord with the specialty requirement and the library's holding characteristics. The system subscribes more books as well as more copies of books in stock according to readers' needs.The system includes mainly four modules, the sub-system for recommending from the readers, management system, data entry system, and data processing system. There are three steps in the decision process, data entry, readers' recommending and deciding to purchase. The system adopts the mixed model of B/S and C/S, which makes a high-speed data transfer, increasing efficiency and safety of the system. The C/S model provides daily care of books and reference materials to the working staffs of the library. Considering its speed, the system adopts the C/S model of local area network. The B/S model is open to the readers, which can be run on the internet through campus networking operation system. So the system makes it possible to be visited outside the university. The online library based on the B/S model provides enquiring service to readers in different places.
