With the rapid development of automation and measurement technology, moreintelligent household conditions are needed by people in work and life. How torealize indoor automatic meter reading system has gradually become an urgentproblem that people must face. As the current meter reading system has somedisadvantage of short-circuit and phase break, and the complex circuits makes itdifficult to debug and protect. In this paper, the author presents an automaticammeter reading system for the residence cells.The system is based on ZigBee technology, for ZigBee technology isconsidered as a new standard for the wireless communication. Firstly the thesisintroduces the research background and the development at home and abroad. Tocompare the various wireless technologies’ advantages and disadvantages, ZigBeetechnology presents a better performance in the meter reading system, which isdetailed introduced at the same time. Secondly, we present an overall design and thefunction of the system as well as the difficulties in system study. Finally thehardware, the software and the format specification of data transmission aredescribed in detail. The entire system is divided into four parts, including enddevice, router, gateway and remote servers, the hardware, the software and theprocess flows of which are presented separately in detail.As the software design is based on ZigBee stack, which is the core of thesystem, this thesis is mainly focus on the study of ZigBee stack. The system uses asimple mesh network topology, which involves in two main parts of ZigBeetechnology, network forming and routing. Meanwhile some energy-savingmechanism is used to optimize the protocol stack for a low power system, aiming atthe whole network low power. The software design includes four parts, networkforming at the gateway, data routing, data collecting and the whole network datatransmission controlling. Besides, it is also in charge of data processing and savingas well as parameter setting and security monitoring of the network, etc.Finally the experimental results are analyzed. In this paper, the system sets upa wireless meter system,which contains end device, router, gateway and remoteservers, for the system running the network runs steadly, the router runs well andlow power solution, so that the energy can be reasonably distributed in the network.
