ABSTRACT:With the successful urbanization in China, the demands of illumination have become prominent. Time switch has become the most popular strategy in traditional street lighting systems, owing to its low cost and easy installation. However, it makes the lighting systems consume much power due to its inflexibility. Thus a novel street lighting system with function of wireless/wire communication is introduced to deal with these issues.Wireless Sensor Network is a multi-hop, self-organizing network consisting of a great deal of macro-sensors. Sensors communicate with other one by wireless techniques, such as ZigBee, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, etc. ZigBee technology is a kind of ideal solution.ZigBee is a kind of wireless communication technologies with the features of low power consumption, low cost and low rate. It is mainly used for wireless data transmission in short-range. A lighting control system is set up in this thesis by using ZigBee technique, based on Wireless Sensor Networks. In addition, the network topology, routing algorithm, protocol specification of ZigBee technology are studied in this process.The main work of the research is as follows:1. In the first two chapters, the state of the art, problems and trends of the street-lighting systems are summarized. The concepts of Wireless Sensor Networks, IEEE802.15.4standard and four-layer architecture of ZigBee are introduced. And the overall solution is designed based on the functional requirements of streetlight system.2. In Chapter Ⅲ, the hardware of the system is set up based on the solution of streetlight system and CC2430chip. The type of the sensor is determined, and the circuit is designed according to the practical requirements. In addition, two alternative solutions of streetlight system are completed.3. In Chapter Ⅳ, the working principles, routing algorithms, network topology and address allocation of ZigBee technology are introduced. Operating mode and workflow of Z-Stack are analyzed. Based on the solution of the system, the relevant codes are modified. The construction of network, data collecting and sending, transparent data transmission and the control of street lighting are achieved. At the same time, this work is trying to achieve the monitor interface design of PC initially. 4. In Chapter V, some experiments are designed, such as building a wireless sensor network, the control of street lighting, data transmission and information collection. The purpose of these experiments is to check the street lighting system. Finally, the reason why ZigBee device can maintain low-power consumption. And the problem is solved.5. Chapter VI concludes the design of street light system, and the problems and deficiencies are found out in order to pave a foundation for the further design.
