The research on combining the poetry and history is a unique literary tradition inChina, and has formed a relatively complete theoretical system.The Shishi concept has beenput forward in Tang Dynasty, even some famous litterateurs or historians has been involvedin the dispute. Till now, some scholars still keep on carving to study. The achievements baseon these research and the points come out from these arguments, provide a rich theoreticalreference and material to history teachers. While the humanities values is the innate characterof the history subject, and teaching history based on historical materials has been emphasizedagain and again, the history teachers is going to pay attention to the possibility of quotingpoems in history class automatically. All above will be discussed in the first part of this paper.In the second part, this paper is going to explore the unique literary characteristics and thehistoriographical value of the poems, to analysis the dialectical relations between the poemsand the history, to distinguish the different internal responsibilities and the purposes ofcreation between the poems and the history, to follow the different positions between thehistorians and poets, to investigate the the feasibility of using poems as teaching materials inhistory class. In the third part, this paper will focus on using poems as teaching materials atthis stage of junior middle school. Using poems to create situations, to tell the knowledge,toarouse emotion or to shape the image of certain historical figures is going to be analyzed inthis part. It is also going to discusses the appropriate time to using poetry in the class and theprinciples of using it. The introspection on these issues is in the forth part, what shouldhistory teachers and students do to gain the ability to distinguish useful poetry and use itproperly has been rethought in this part.
