Objectives:The aim of this study was to explore the attitudes of practice nursing studentstowards the disabled persons in Changchun and analyze the influencing factors. All ofthese would provide the basis for practice nursing students to build positive attitudetowards disability and disabled person.Methods:This study was conducted between November2013and August2014in fourthree grade class-A hospitals in Changchun by the self-designed questionnaire. Datawas collected from nursing students during their clinical practice. The questionnaireincludes three sections: socio-demographical characteristics of practice nursingstudents; the situation of practice nursing students contact and identification withdisabled persons; the attitude of practice nursing students towards disability anddisabled person. Field survey was used in this investigation, practice nursing studentswere asked to fill out the questionnaires and the questionnaires were taken back on thespot. A data base was established by EpiData3.02software and the analyzed usingSPSS21.0software.The socio-demographical characteristics and the situation ofcontact and identification were described by descriptive analysis. The influencingfactors of attitude were determined by Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test.Results:1. Of the399practice nursing students involved in the analysis, in the research ofthe extent of contact,193(48.4%)students never contacted with disabled persons,188(47.1%) students contacted with disabled persons generally, and18(4.5%)studentscontacted with disabled persons intimately. In the research of the levels on knowingabout the living conditions of disabled people,102(25.6%) practice nursing studentsthought they were not familiar with the living conditions of disabled personscompletely,99(254.8%) students thought they were not familiar mainly,153(38.3%) students thought they knew a little about it,35(8.8%) students were familiar mainly,and only10(2.5%) students thought they are familiar with it completely.369(92.5%)of them believed that disabled persons could undertake moral responsibility, however,30(7.5%) of them did not.386(96.7%) practice nursing students believed that disabledperson should have the right to own paid work, but13(3.3%) students did not.328(82.2%) practice nursing students believed that children with disabilities would notaffect other children negatively,71(17.8%) students believed they would.221(55.4%)practice nursing students believed that the disabled persons could adapt socialcompetitions, while178(44.6%) students did not believe that.2. The score of practice nursing students’ attitudes towards disabled persons was55.20±8.56, which was positive. The score of Gain (14.52±2.37) was highest, whilethe score of Tolerance(12.77±3.08) was lowest.3. In terms of age, education, practice stage, extent of contact, attitude on socialcompetitions of disabled persons have significant differences in management ofpractice nursing students’ attitudes towards disabled persons. The score of≥25groupwas highest,≤20groupwas lowest in the influencing factor of age; the score of thebachelor degree nursing students was highest, the secondary school nursing studentswas lowest; the score of the middle stage of practice students was highest, theirattitude was the most positive, the final stage of practice students was lowest, theirattitude was most negative; students who believed disabled persons should have theright to own paid work got the highest score, their attitude was more positive; studentswho believed the disabled persons could adapt social competitions got the highestscore, their attitude was more positive.Conclusions:1. In Changchun, the contact of practice nursing students and disabled persons islimited. The majority of practice nursing students know little about the livingconditions of disabled persons.2. The practice nursing students’ attitudes towards disabled persons are positive.3. The main influencing factors of practice nursing students’ attitudes towards thedisabled persons were age, education, practice stage, extent of contact, and attitude onsocial competitions of disabled persons.
