Objectives:This study was to investigate life attitude of nursing students in secondaryschools, technological academies and undergraduate schools in Changchun City, tounderstand the present situation of nursing students’ life attitudes and to analyze itsinfluencing factors. The survey results were provided for the educators to takecorresponding teaching countermeasures in life education according to the nursingstudents of different levels.Methods:This study used stratified cluster sampling method.1000nursing students inthree levels of4schools in Changchun city were enrolled as respondents, whichcontained secondary schools (the first and the second grades), technologicalacademies (the first and the second grades), and undergraduate schools (the first to thethird grades). The survey applied life attitude scales which were made up by Taiwanscholar Xie Manying as a research tool to investigate nursing students’ life attitude.The data were collected by epidata3.0software and analyzed by SPSS17.0statisticalsoftware.Results:1. The life attitude scores of nursing students in Changchun city are357.52±51.28, which is in the intermediate level according to the original questionnaireevaluation criteria. After percent conversion, the scores of each dimension are listedas follows from high to low, loving and caring (76.66), life experience (75.60), theideal (73points), sense of identity (72.62), independent life (70.64) and death attitude(69.17). The scores of all dimensions are in the intermediate level.2. The influencing factors of nursing students’ attitudes toward life includedegree, grade, age, gender, home place, only child or not, whether experienced aloved one’s death, whether as a student cadre and political affiliation. The higher one’sdegree is the higher life attitude scores he or she gets. While low grade students get higher scores than high grade students. There are significant differences between agegroups in the total score and the scores of all dimensions (P<0.05). Girls get higherscores than boys. Nursing students from rural areas get higher scores than those fromcity areas in life experience (P<0.05). There is no difference in scores between twogroups whether they have religious belief or not (P>0.05). The same is true of twogroups whether they live in one-parent family or not (P>0.05). But the non onlychild group gets higher scores than the only child group. The student cadre group onlygets higher scores in the ideal dimension(P<0.01). Student party members get thehighest scores in the ideal and sense of identity dimensions.3. According to the stepwise multiple regression analysis, the major influencefactors are degree, grade, gender and whether experienced a loved one’s death.Conclusion:1. The life attitude of nursing students in Changchun City is in the intermediatelevel, which needs further improvement.2. There are significant differences among nursing students of differenteducational levels in life attitude.3. The influencing factors of nursing students’ attitude toward life include degree,grade, age, gender, home place, only child or not, whether experienced a loved one’sdeath, whether as a student cadre and political affiliation. But the major influencefactors are degree, grade, gender and whether experienced a loved one’s death.4. According to the characteristics of nursing students in different levels, nursingeducators should set targeted training goals to strengthen their life education.
