Recently, with the rapid development of wireless communication technology, microelectronics, sensor technology and embedded technology, wireless sensor network (WSN) with great potential and very broad application prospects is coming into the field of vision of national and international experts gradually. Wireless sensor network is composed of lots of miniature wireless sensor nodes which are freely distributed in the monitored area. These nodes communicate with each other through wireless. WSN has great advantages such as low power consumption, low cost, distributed and self-organizing. It is widely used in environmental monitoring, smart home, industrial control, military and many other fields. As a core technology in the wireless sensor network, routing protocol has become a hot topic in recent years.There are many kinds of routing protocols with advantages and disadvantages. But they are all not strong practical. In view of the applications of WSN in the smart grid and environmental monitoring, the thesis puts forward a long chain routing protocol in order to solve the problem when the network topology is a long chain.The main contents of this thesis are to design and implement a long chain routing protocol. Resources of the wireless sensor nodes are extremely limited and the nodes are most battery-powered. We are focused on achieving low power consumption of the entire network, enhancing link robustness and long-distance transmission of data. Firstly, we introduce classification and characteristics of network topology and analyses the characteristics and classification of routing protocol on WSN and then we put forward the long chain routing protocol. Secondly, we detail the working principle of the network protocol. Meanwhile, we select microprocessor chips, radio frequency chips and other major components for experimental platform. The work including the design of the hardware circuit and PCB plate making is completed. Thirdly, we introduce the wireless sensor network system based on the long chain routing protocol and completes the software workflow design of the data sink terminal, communication node and sensor node and analyzes the possible exceptional situation and its handling process. We also introduce the development of PC monitoring software for testing. The software can display the data curve and store the environmental data. Finally, the thesis summarizes the work done, points out the potential shortcoming in the system, and specifies the direction of future work.In this thesis, a kind of long chain routing protocol is designed based on WSN and a simple, strong anti-interference ability, low-power wireless sensor network system is achieved. The results show that the system runs steadily, transmits reliably and has a strong link self-healing ability and anti-interference ability, and thus, it complies with the design requirements and has a broad application prospect.
