A wireless sensor network(WSN)is made up of several sensor nodes and each node is equipped with a radio transceiver,a microcontroller and an energy source.Nodes usually run on batteries and this imposes a constraint on the lifespan of a node and in turn the entire WSN.As the name suggests,a sensor collects data, communicating this collected data is the most expensive action it performs in terms of power consumption. This thesis evaluates a network protocol that implements measures to reduce energy consumption in Wireless Sensor Networks, measures such as dynamic sending rate of control messages and addressing topology inconsistencies only when data packets have to be sent,Routing Protocol for Low power Lossy networks. It aims to prove that the protocol will allow the nodes to discover each other, conserve the system resources such as energy and memory, minimize data loss between the nodes and establish efficient routes for data to flow through the network.Being based on Ipv6 the protocol should also do away with non-interoperable networks interconnected by protocol translation gateways and proxies and transition to an end-to-end IP-based solution.By simulating the operation of the protocol in a lab environment we proved the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed scheme by a comprehensive qualitative analysis of its ability to save energy by finding the shortest possible route to minimize transmission energy...
