Our Study Of Public Library Services For Vulnerable Groups

The gap of social wealth, which brought by economic system reform and socialtransformation is becoming wider and wider, some problems of vulnerable groups, suchas urban migrant workers, laid-off workers, unemployed, retired workers or etc. hasbeen increasingly highlighted. Working as a public welfare institution and an importantpart of social public welfare undertakings, a community nonprofit cultural institution,public library takes incumbent responsibility and obligation of taking care of vulnerablegroups by giving support with culture and humanistic care.This article aims to examine the present status of the public library service for thevulnerable groups in China and to explore the factors hindering the public libraryservice for the vulnerable groups; this paper carries the investigation out with acombination of the method of literature investigation, chart analysis. On the basis of it,this paper provide reasonable suggestions for offering public library service to thedisadvantaged groups from three aspects including government, libraries and vulnerablegroups own, which contributes to the common development of vulnerable groups andpublic library itself.
