With the proposed strategic objective of the college building "domestic first-classuniversities ", the competition among universities is fiercer and fiercer. Universitylibrary is an important part of the university competitiveness as one of the threepillars of universities’ competitiveness. Performance management of universitylibrary is an important part of library management level, and its strength has animportant effect on the competitiveness of university library. At present, China’suniversity library has begun to accept the performance management theories andideas, some universities have gradually started to build a library of performancemanagement system, but the effect of the practical application is not very well, theidea of the performance management of university library is not applied to all aspectsof the library management, a good performance culture does not form and the libraryperformance management system is not perfect. Therefore, it has a great significanceto explore the university library’s performance management-related issues.The paper uses a single case study method, bases on the performance managementknowledge, takes Library of Huaqiao university as a case study object. Through fieldresearch, we found that Library of Huaqiao University has problems of weaknessperformance management consciousness, insufficient use of performance appraisalresults, lack of effective incentive, autonomy, performance communication andfeedback. And the paper analyzes the reasons of the existing problems from the trendof the performance management of business unit, cost control and the organizationalculture, etc. At last, the paper proposes solutions to solve these problems from sixaspects of building the awareness of the importance of performance management,performance objectives and performance indicators system, the performance ofcommunication and feedback, making full use of the performance appraisal results,organizational culture and enhancing the happiness of the employees outside thesystem, to offer suggestions for improving the performance management system ofLibrary of Huaqiao university. This has an important practical guiding significance for the effective implementation of performance management of Library of Huaqiaouniversity, and the use of performance management theory to guide practical workprovides an important reference model for our libraries of universities.
