With the continuous development of digital signal processing technology andcommunication technology, digital image processing system has been widely used inindustrial inspection, medical equipment, entertainment electronics, defense andmilitary, and many other fields. In embedded applications, the image processingsystem is more emphasis on real-time performance and stability of the system, andhas more restrictions on power consumption and structure. As a dedicated digitalsignal processor, high-performance DSP with high-speed data interfaces and up toGHz core clock frequency is very suitable to be applied to the field of embeddedimage processing. However, because of large amount of computation and datathroughput of the image processing, single or single-core processors often can notmeet the requirements of real-time image processing applications.The parallel systemconstituted with multi-processor or multi-core processors become the main way toimprove system performance.The topics rely on the actual project application. First, a real-time imageprocessing system with three high-performance DSPs is proposed and implemented.The tests show that real-time performance and stability of the image processingsystem meet application requirements. Second, based on multi-core DSP real-timeimage processing system is proposed, under the premise to meet the real-time imageprocessing, further to achieve low power consumption of the system.The multi-coreDSP real-time image processing system provides a broader space for the imageprocessing algorithms upgrades.The real-time image processing system is designed with core circuit ofDSP+FPGA, mounted with high-speed external memory to ensure enough computingperformance. FPGA and DSP with high-speed data interfaces provide enoughbandwidth for large amounts of image data transmission.The core frequency and the data rate of high-speed bus of the hardware system isup to GHz. At the same time, power consumption of the system is above10W. Thesystem hardware circuits must be designed with high-speed digital system designmethods. A large number of simulation analysis has been done to ensure high-speedsignal integrity of the signal in the image processing system and power integrity of thepower system.Firstly, the paper put forward schemes of multi-DSP real-time image processingsystem and multi-core DSP real-time image processing system. Secondly, hardwarecircuit designs are introduced in comprehensive way, followed with the analysis ofsignal integrity and implementation of the multi-DSP system’s printed circuit boardand related simulation. Finally, functional test, comprehensive test and environmentaltest are introduced.The tests verify the correctness and reliability of the multi-DSP real-time image processing system.
