Today, science and technology increasingly penetrates into every field of humansociety,"Science and technology is the first productive forces" has become theprimary force for revolution which change influences our economy. Popularizingscientific knowledge, advocating the scientific method, spreading the scientificideology, and promoting scientific spirit to the people are important measures whichrespond to the strategy of " revitalizing the country through science and technology ",and enhance the national "soft power" of China, and construct vision of "Chinesedream" together.. Therefore, the cultivation of scientific literacy of citizen has becomeespecially important. The media, which spreads information and knowledge, takes theresponsibility of popularizing popular science. Under the condition of marketeconomy, the competition in media industry is fierce, which causes the value of mediato gradually incline to commercialism. However, media commercialism has a direct oran indirect impact on the spread of scientific literacy of scientific news. It is moredifficult for comprehensive newspaper than professional technological newspaper todevelop scientific news. How the comprehensive newspaper adheres to journalisticprofessionalism, make sure of the spreading scientific literacy for people, whileremaining profitable in the market competition is a major issue.In this paper, according to the scientific news of "guangzhou daily" reported fromJanuary1,2003to December31,2012, the characteristics and the existing problemsof these news were analyzed. Moreover, the causes for these problems and solvingstrategy were investigated from the perspective of balancing the mediacommercialism and spread of scientific literacy.
