In this era of everyone has a microphone, the acceptance and dissemination ofinformation seems to be more convenient and more free, however, the choice,judgment and use of it are big tests too. For contemporary college students, thereasonable use and manage of media becomes one of the most important index tomeasure their qualities. As sports college students, shouldering the mission ofpromoting the country’s power in sports, they should pay more attention to their ownmedia literacy and improvement in the age of information.Of course, the main measure to improve the students’ media literacy is medialiteracy education, which is the requirement of the times, and is more to represent thegeneral trend of educational development within the scope of global vision. For now,compared with the national media literacy education, that in our country is still in itsinfancy, with the implementation of the localization characteristic of China. And forsports college students, the group presents unique characteristics, media literacyeducation is always being bypassed more, which should be given more attention bycolleges, society and individuals. One of the main problems that sports colleges anduniversities should focus on is how to make more students accept more professionalmedia literacy education for better selection, analysis and judgment of mass mediaand improve their comprehensive quality.This paper adopts literature research, questionnaire investigation, expertinterview and mathematical statistics to define media literacy and its related concepts;analyzes the characteristics of sports colleges students and discusses the status ofcollege students’ media literacy, proposes the problems and strategies during theprocess of media literacy education. In order to make it more scientific, more rigorousand more academic, this study adopts the method of questionnaire to investigate atotal of989undergraduate and post-graduate students of Beijing Sport University andCapital University of Physical Education. The data obtained are then in furtherstatistics and analysis in order to know more about the status of students medialiteracy and provide certain reference for media literacy education.This research shows that sports college students have their own specialties,personalities, physiological and psychological characteristics, and in the process ofthe contact and use of media, they have their own unique advantages. However, theircognition of media literacy is relatively limited and their understanding problems suchas news entertainment and news of violence are relatively shallow; they are lack oftheoretical guidance and practical training, but can hold their own stand firmly and do not go with the flow; mass media can basically meet the needs of sports collegestudents for media information, but the students do not have enough judgment andcaution to the bad information resources; they are able to actively participate in themass media, and take full advantage of the characteristics of new media and meet thediverse needs of themselves to expand their knowledge and abilities.This paper put forward the the media literacy education need to be according toindividual characteristics of sports college students, targeted to carry out withprofessional sports characteristics; we should bring students superiority into full playto expand their comprehensive knowledge and complementary advantages; addcourses related to media literacy to the official curriculum system, strengthen learningof theoretical knowledge of all sports college students including the major of sportsnews, deepen the understanding of the connotation of media and carry out medialiteracy education activities systematically; enhance the understanding of mediainformation as well as the use of practical skills and judgments in the concretepractice about the understanding of the traditional media and new mediacharacteristics, advantages and disadvantages etc; draw lessons from othercomprehensive colleges and universities to strengthen intercollegiate exchange andcooperation between to complement win-win cooperation; increase the use of sportsmedia devices, improve the coverage of media equipment, strengthen the effectivemanagement of all sorts of media equipment and reduce network charges for thepremise of students’use; students should pay attention to, to the promotion of theircomprehensive quality in understanding, using and judgment in the process of mediainformation and make accurate judgment on the premise of rational, comprehensiveanalysis.
