The crane is one of the most important electrical and mechanical equipments in modern lifting industrial. It plays a vital role in the development of modern industry. However, there are a variety of potential risks in the use of the crane. How to reduce the crane accident rates and decreasing the losses of enterprises and individuals due to the crane accident must be addressed in the current. From technical level, the intelligent monitor of the cranes is a start to reduce the accident rates. With the intelligent monitor, we can fully understand and monitor the operational status of the crane. The error can be timely diagnosed which ensure its safe operation and improve the efficiency. It has a far-reaching influence.Internet of things is a network which is in accordance with the agreements of articles linked to the exchange of information based on radio frequency, infrared, GPRS and other wireless sensors in recent years. The emergence of the internet of things strengthens the remote monitoring and understanding of the items. It achieves the integration of energy efficient safety and environmental protection control battalion. With the advent of the internet of things, the remote monitoring of the site crane’s status and the operate information can be centralized. It is extremely important to improve crane efficiency and enhance crane safety management.This thesis studies the development status and market prospect of the crane monitoring system to determine the need for this research. At the same time, the direction of development of wireless sensor networks and application status are analysised. According to the demand analysis of monitering system development trends, the possibilities and the advantages of the wireless sensor network technology are detailed analysised in the field of crane monitoring. According to the ZigBee network topology analysis of the performance need, a routing algorithm is given to crane wireless sensor networks. NS2simulation verified the reliability of the algorithm. Finally, the design of the crane control system hardware design, software design and debug results is given which proved the safety performance of the system.
