At present, there are many studies about ZigBee network technology. However, thesizes of the application scene which is small and with narrow network coverage at thebeginning. Now, the network covering is gradually becoming biger and biger. Moreover, thera are little reserches on the ZigBee routing protocol which can be able to apply thelarge-scale network well. This paper focuses on minimizing the cost of routing as far aspossible and improving the efficiency of ZigBee node, which based on the large-scaleZigBee network. Then according to the analysis of traditional ZigBee routing protocols,we design a new routing protocol named ZB-CESRP which uses a new clusteringmethod and utilizes the topology of network to divide it into one or more logicalclusters. And the communication of ZB-CESRP is based on the ZBR communicationmechanism which is mixed with AODVjr and Tree-routing protocol. In the traditional sensor networks with many nodes and wide coverage, clusteringis a basic method to solve communication problems of the large-scale network. However, this method is not widely used in the ZigBee network. In the new ZB-CESRP,we divide the network into several logical clusters to finish clumping and initialization,it drew lessons from ZBR routing protocol and also combines with characteristics ofZigBee, which utilizes network center PAN coordinator to launch network. At the sametime, this paper proposes that communication modes between the nodes of ZB-CESRPare divided into two kinds of situation: The communication in the same cluster andMulti-hops routing among clusters. And then, the ZB-CESRP borrows ideas fromadvantages of Tree-routing and AODVjr routing algorithm. On one hand, we use theway, which is similar to Tree-routing, to send message when nodes of the cluster toshare routing information. On the other hand, we look for intermediate nodes that havethe shotest distance from source nodes for accomplishing the establishment of therouting between clusters, which is helpful for reducing the route path discovery anddecreasing the routing path. In addition, in order to balance the energy consumption ofthe cluster head node and increase the lifetime of network, the paper proposes a newstrategy about cluster head rotation and another further strategy about avoiding center PAN coordinator. And when links failure, we can use path repair mechanisms inside oroutside the cluster to complete routing maintenance. In the end, we also take themaintenance mechanism into consideration, and the relevant issues are discussed. Finally, we design a corresponding experimental platform to analyze performancesabout ZB-CESRP and some traditional routing protocols respectively. And the resultsshow that ZB-CESRP can be able to decrease the routing path effectively and reduce theenergy consumption of network nodes greatly, which are far superior to the Tree-routingprotocol and ZBR. Furthermore, it has great progress for easing delay phenomenon andreducing packet loss rate in the transmission process of the control message.
