Wireless sensor networks (WSN) is a kind of self-organizing multi-hop network that is composed of many randomly distributed isomorphic sensor nodes with the primary purpose of data gathering and terminal controlling. The network formed by the ZigBee technology is a typical wireless sensor networks. ZigBee technology aims for wireless sensor networks with low rate, low-cost, low-power scenarios. ZigBee nodes are usually battery-powered, the life cycle of the ZigBee network is heavily dependent on the utilization of the node battery energy. Therefore how to reduce the energy consumption of each network layer of is an important research topic.This thesis first introduces the wireless sensor network and ZigBee technology, and then proposes the following three improvements based on the analysis of each the ZigBee network layer protocol, especially ZigBee address allocation algorithm and routing algorithm:Firstly, in order to alleviate the hot zone problem in the ZigBee network and balance network energy consumption, ZigBee topology is controlled and optimized through the improvement of the address allocation formula;Secondly, this thesis proposes an improved algorithm to reduce routing overhead in AODVjr routing algorithm by using the depth of nodes to limit directions of route discovery;Thirdly, in order to reduce the delay of the event information in the mesh network, this thesis introduces proxy nodes for sink node based on RREQ control by depth, while ensuring a low routing overhead, reducing the delay of the event information.Simulation results show that the controlled and optimized topology relieves the hot zone problem effectively, balances the energy of the network, and ultimately extends the network life cycle. The improvement based on node depth for ZigBee routing algorithm further reduces routing overhead relative to the original routing algorithm and improved algorithm and improves network performance. The improved algorithm for real-time requirements of the event information not only reduces the routing overhead but also shortens the arrival time of information, which ensures the quality of service.
