Physics history is a history about human race’s understanding of nature’s various physicalphenomenon. It is an invaluable source of information on how the knowledge, concepts, andmethodologies of physics evolved over time. It is also full of pieces for materialism andstories on the dedication of physicists. The educational function of physics history has gettingmore and more attention. It has become one of the hot ideas for reforming high school physicscurriculum to incorporate physics history into high school physics.This paper shows the necessity of incorporating physics history into high school physicseducation based on education phycology. It presents the principles and techniques forimplementing the incorporation with several typical examples used in actual practice. It alsopresents survey and analysis results on the effectiveness of the techniques. The study showedthat incorporating physics history into high school physics is compatible with the cognitivedevelopment of high school students. The incorporation helps students better understand andexperience the scientific approach required for discovering physical theorems and laws. Thistype of experience resonates with students and in turn raises their interests and desires forlearning physics, which is helpful for developing their creativeness, hand-on ability, andscientific culture. In summary, incorporating physics history into high school physics willhelp reach the objective of three dimensional educations, and it is consistent with the goal ofhigh school physics education stated in the character education principle.
