Media literacy is the prolongation of the ability of audition, expression, reading and writing. It is an ability that the individuals should learn and possess in modern society. At the information-aged society, through media literacy education, people, especially college students can fully understand the characters and functions of media, and make full use of it.Based on the conception of media literacy, the paper analyzes the facts and characters of college students who are now studying in Zhengzhou City, the typical one in middle China via questionnaire investigation, depth interview with the combination of both qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis. Finally, the author points out that it is high time building up China's media literacy education system which include education policy, teaching mode and curricula on the basis of the research of media developed countries. The reasons why the research identified college students in Zhengzhou City as target sample are as follows.Firstly, media literacy research in China mainly focused on the theoretical aspect, while the empirical research is comparatively less than the media developed countries; meanwhile, the samples in the empirical research always concentrated on the eastern and western China but middle China; besides, Zhengzhou City, the typical one in China, is relatively representative for the research. Secondly, the results of this study should provide basis for China's building up of media literacy education system, and colleges are the bases of media literacy research and media literacy education implementation, thus the experiences of media literacy education on college students will be advantageous for that of citizens in the whole society. Thirdly, the operation of questionnaire distribution and reclamation in colleges is comparatively easier under control.
