As the human society has experienced a long primitive society,agricultural society,industrial society, in the end of the 20th century and gradually transition to the information society. In the information society, information ran through various socio-professional activities of people and has become a major human activity and promoted social development and progress. In the highly developed mass media information age, media has become the most important access to information, it can be said that the media are the important component of the information society. In this context, how to understand the media and how to use the media to promote personal and social development are particularly important. In order to resolve the contradiction between the media and the people, the concept of media literacy has been introduced.Based on background analysis of information society, the assay introduced the history, characteristics, classification of media literacy in details, and described the applications in the Chinese localization combined with the reality of the Chinese media literacy. After analyzing the application of media literacy model, this article also explains the effect of application of media literacy in recent years, describes the impact of media literacy on media effects research after the introduction, and through the typical examples like "SARS",Wenchuan earthquake analysis the improve process of the media literacy. Finally, through the introduction of media literacy education, and development of the history, describes the ways of media literacy education of the information society and explores development trends of media literacy under the information society in the future, with a view to obtain the method of media literacy education that suitable to China's national conditions.
