Beginning with the survey on core concepts such as literacy and media literacy, this paper focuses on the analysis of the background of Taiwan media literacy education from the perspective of history and examines the problems in terms of political economy within the macroscopic views. The finding of this paper indicates that the theoretical limitations of Taiwan media literacy education can be summarized as follows:alienation and variation of critical orientation, lack of contemplation on core theory’s localization, weakness of practical research on alternative media. The theoretical limitations are stated as follows:lack of media literacy consciousness, embarrassment of disobedience to the educational policy, absence and avoidance of commercial media. Based on the discussion about these limitations, this paper analyzes the paradox between curriculum development and practicality of alternative media. In addition, this paper also aims to expound a new western media education concept, explores Leavis and Mcluhan’s thoughts on media education and examines basic educational concepts of critical pedagogy. All of these aspects construct guidance to the theoretical frame of Taiwan media’s related practice.
