With the amazing rising volume of shipment of the portable electronics products such as mobile phone, MP3 player and portable game pad, the needs of low power , low cost , high performance audio codec chip grow rapidly. Due to the design technology limits, the market of codec is fully occupied by the foreign company.The target of this paper is to design a digital part of 24bit low power, small area with high performance delta-sigma(ΔΣ) audio codec DA path. The AD path digital part could be made out similarly. These two parts are the core of the audio codec chip. This paper mainly includes the following contents:Data convert and signal process fundamentals based on over-sampling technology. First introduce sampling and quantization of audio signals ,second is the derivation of delta-sigma principle; Then analyze the different types of the delta-sigma modulator and compare their features.Delta-sigma digital audio codec structure and signal process flowing. Combining the feature of hardware design , we choose suitable filters such as cascade half-band filter and modulators to implement and optimize the algorithm.Detail the hardware design of the DA path digital part. Using lots of advanced ASIC design technology to optimize the design. Furthermore, a novel structure of the digital delta-sigma modulator is announced to save much more cost and power consumption. Introduce the digital ASIC design and verification flow. Discuss the synthesis and timing analysis. Analyze the FPGA simulation and chip test result and give out the idea to improve the performance.Finally, we succeed in taping out the chip. Comparing to the leading products of the market, our design is more superior in cost and power. As a result, our design has been shifted to the stage of mass production.
