With the development of bandwidth network and streaming media technology, the total number of internet users is growing. As a result, the requirement for media form is becoming more individuated and varied, and smooth interaction is more necessary than before. IPTV technology can combine computer, communication and TV together. With the help of this technology, IPTV users can receive broadcast and have smooth interaction with service providers. But IPTV technology also makes it easy to obtain radio programs service, Internet browsing service, E-mail dispatch service and various other kinds of online services, such as information consultation, amusement, education and commercial affairs. It's a subversive technology, and will bring a revolution to telecom world. The development of IPTV is a step-by-step process. There are many difficulties in the early period of development. Media Content Distribution Network(MCDN) technology provides the most important technologic support for wide application of IPTV. Content storage and content distribution technologies are the key points of MCDN technology. The purpose of the study on content storage technology is to obtain reliable and effective storage of IPTV mass media information. The storage area network is an effective approach to solve this problem. The performance indexes of IPTV media SAN include two aspects with certain confiugrations of hardware and software in the media SAN. One is the number of stream media the media server can support. The other is the usage percent of CPU in the media server. The research of this dissertation focused on the media Storage Area Network of IPTV, The author have done some work, including setting up the test platform, simplifying the system model, tuning the system level of network, and applying the Intel?I/OAT(I/O Acceleration Technology) to the Storage Area Network in order to enhance the performance of system.Firstly, this dissertation introduced the development of network storage technology, and the content storage & distribution technology. Secondly, it introduced the IPTV system and its media distribution network in detail. Thirdly, this dissertation introduced the iSCSI protocol and Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA), which represents the new generation of open industrial standard, and the Content Distribution Network based on ATCA. Finally, this dissertation introduced and analyzed the new acceleration technology-Intel(?)I/OAT, and investigated the feasibility of applying Intel?I/OAT to IPTV media storage area network based on iSCSI protocol. This paper constructs an IPTV media storage area network based on iSCSI. It simplifies the structure model of Storage Area Network(SAN), and analyzes the performance of each subsystem of simplified model. Based on performance analysis for IPTV Media SAN, it applies the Intel(?)I/OAT to Media SAN, and does some testing, and tune some key parameter of system level of SAN, and enhances the performance of IPTV media SAN.The tuned SAN system obtained ideal number of stream media the media server can support as well as reduced the usage percent of CPU in the media server, and this is the first creationary work of this dissertation. The other creationary work is applying the Intel(?)I/OAT to IPTV media SAN which can also improve the system performance. The research result can be considered as a reference of implementing the reliable and effective storage for IPTV media content.
