SAN, that is Storage Area Network, is the new trend of network storagetechnology, and the IP SAN, represented by iSCSI, is the hotspot of this field.Backgrounding "High Speed Mass Sequential Storage Equipment" research project, asolution based on iSCSI protocol to the IP SAN network storage is promoted. In thissolution, mature IP network technology and widespread area networks is utilized, andiSCSI protocol is adopted to achieve block level data transfer. This scheme constructsa multi-platform and expandable IP SAN, which statisfies the requirement of highperformance mass storage equipment in signal analyse field.Based on analysis of domestic and foreign situation of network storagetechnology development, IP SAN system structure and technology principle is studied, and various IP SAN protocol standards are compared. At the same time, the applianceand development of IP SAN is analysed, and its advantages, shortage as well as keytechnologies are summarized. Combined with requirement of signal analyse field, theIP SAN network storage solution scheme based on iSCSI protocol is designed, thesoftware and hardware configurations of storage server and client are introduced, andthe functional moduals are explained in detail. The RAID configuration and thestorage server manage software are also mentioned. How to realize the iSCSI initiaitor in Windows platform is the key difficulty inthe scheme. In the thesis, the iSCSI protocol is studied, the map of SCSI to iSCSImodel is described, and the core concepts and function mechanism of iSCSI is clearlyexpounded. Furthermore, the main PDU format and iSCSI request/responsemechanism are introduced, and the iSCSI error recovery and security considerationsare also analyzed. Based on the research of Windows WDM kenerl mode driver, aniSCSI initiator in Windows 2000 kenerl, which uses virtual disk to intercept the I/Orequests that carry the SCSI command and data, is designed and realized, and TDItechnology to access network in order to encapsulates SCSI command and data intoiSCSI PDU and send to target is utilized. In the end, the thesis tests the I/O throughput, response time and CPU utilizationseparately on 100MB and 1GB network, and analyses the test results.
