With the rapid development of information and Internet technology, the application of network is also diversified. Owing to the following merits: mature and stable technology, colorful services, highnet-online rates and so on, IPTV has become an investment service field for the different Telecom operators to increase market competitiveness. Nowadays, with the development of IPTV, content distribution has become more and more important. And because of the high demand of network resourse in IPTV, the method of distribution should be considered when IPTV system is cosmically applied. Therefore, it is significant to study the content distribution technology.The architecture of current IPTV system, which is a distributed system architecture[0], has been studied in the thesis. According to the hierarchical feature of IPTV distributed system, a general framework of content distribution applied to IPTV, which is the hierarchical framework on the basis of segment, is studied. This framework intelligentizely puts the segments in the center media station, and then pushs the segments to the edge media station for subscribers. Thus, the answer delay is shortened and the storage demand in edge server network is reduced.Streaming media content routing algorithm used for content routing is analyzed. According to the IPTV distributed system which is on the basis of segment,the partial distribution is proposed. Media Location Registry is used to maintain the segment information and topology of IPTV which is essential for content distribution. Based on the above design method, Specific analysis and design have been made on some key processes of the distribution, such as Pushing a Program, Getting a Program On-demand, Deleting or Moving a Program, Data Consistency Check ,etc.The key data structure models of the design according various processes are presented. And some running instances of the content distribution are also shown. The Content Distribution System has been put into use, and the perfermance is stable.
