Software Defined Radio (SDR) is a new wireless communication systems which based on modem communication theory, digital signal processing and microelectronic technology.Digital Down Converter(DDC) is one of the key technologies in the SDR.Its basic function is to pick up useful narrowband signals from high-speed medium frequency digital signals and transform them to base band.Afterwards, the low-speed base-band signals can be processed by DSP devices.Based on the research project, High Speed Dedicated DDC Based on ASIC, and after an in-depth study of the rationale and technologies used by abroad mainstream DDC products as well as the possible application areas, this paper improves the maximum processing speed and processing bandwidth of DDC greatly by improving the system architecture of traditional DDC and implementing some of the modules in unconventional ways. After introducing basic theory and architecture of DDC and summarizing various key algorithms such as CORDIC, DA, that are used in DDC.This paper proposes the RTL architectures of Programmable Down Convert module, COordinate Convert module and Dewrap module. The last part of this paper introduces the ASIC design of DDC and test results are analyzed in the end. After be verified on Altera's Stratix S40 FPGA,based on 0.13micro-meter technology, the DDC chip works on a high performance and meets all requirements of the design.
